We, Mark and Ruby Schlabach, both had the opportunity to grow up in homes where singing was an integral part of our lives. ………..This songbook is a compilation of many songs collected over the years. This is not a hymn book and we would ask that it not be used for worship services such as church services or Sunday evening hymn singings as there was no reviewing committee. The purpose is for families and informal gatherings.

While still in my youth, a concerned Amish minister had a big influence on my understanding of hymns versus gospel singing. Gospel singing, which comes from the Protestant world, has a focus on many I’s… how I feel, what I desire, whereas hymns have a focus on God, Christ and His Church and our accountability to such, which should be a part of our worship services.
